Skin Care Tips & Routine

I’m sure you’ve been told getting a good night sleep and drinking water is good for your body as well as your skin. That’s the easy part. When it comes to skincare products, it can get pretty confusing. What is exfoliation for? Do I really need a toner? Do I apply a serum before or after a moisturizer?

I’m sure you’ve been told getting a good night sleep and drinking water is good for your body as well as your skin. That’s the easy part. When it comes to skincare products, it can get pretty confusing. What is exfoliation for? Do I really need a toner? Do I apply a serum before or after a moisturizer?

Let’s break down each step that goes into having a skincare regime (in order):

Step 1: Cleanse

You can’t have a great skincare routine without cleansing. Facial cleansers remove debris from the skin such as excess oil and dirt, as well as remove impurities from the pores. It’s an essential first step because it also prepares your skin for the rest of the products you’ll use later. We recommend our Revitalizing Cleansing Gel for oilier skin types and our Gentle Cleansing Lotion for drier skin.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Did you know that many common skin care issues have to do with lack of exfoliation? Don’t miss this crucial step! Exfoliating the skin means you’re removing dead skin cells from the surface. It’s proven that exfoliating your skin helps with acne, texture, blackheads, and more. There are multiple types of exfoliation (physical, chemical, and enzyme). Since we never use any harsh chemicals, we have combined the best of physical and enzyme-exfoliation in our Dual Action Scrub. It uses walnut shells to gently physically exfoliate and papaya fruit enzymes for clearer, smooth skin.

Step 3: Tone

Toner is a step often overlooked, but it’s still super important!. Use a toner after you exfoliate to help restore your skin’s pH. You will especially like toners if you find you have more sensitive skin as it can help calm it down. Some toners offer multiple benefits in one product such as our Clarifying Toner which calms the skin as well as minimizes pores.

Step 4: Treat

This is where you can treat any specific skin concerns from overly dry skin, anti-aging or enhancing your skin tone Our Renewal Facial Serum, for example, has many benefits such as vitamins, oils, and antioxidants. It’s a great step to add once a day to really show your skin some extra love.

Step 5: Moisturize

Moisturizing is important for all skin types, even oily skin! Continued use with our Nourishing Cream once a day can lead to softer and smoother skin. Skincare tip: When it comes to products that stay on the skin (serums, moisturizers, etc.) it’s not always the same order depending on what products you’re using. Apply products with thinner consistency first and then follow with thicker products.

Step 6: Eye Cream

Any eye product is applied after you’re done with your face. They are crucial in preventing fine lines over time as well as creating a nice base for makeup if you wear it. It’s recommended to apply twice a day with a very small amount (half a pea size at most) as that area is delicate.

Step 7: Sunscreen

True skincare advocates all agree that sunscreen is important, and they’re right! No matter what time of year it is you should be applying SPF to your skin. It prevents sunburns as well as harmful UVA from increasing the aging process of your skin. Trust us, your older self will thank you for it later.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “That’s a lot of steps! I don’t have the time or money for all that!”

But there’s good news! There are many affordable products that combine steps for you to make it easy. For example, our broad spectrum Radiance CC Cream SPF 30 acts as both a sunscreen and a moisturizer which makes it a must-have addition for any morning routine.

Consistency Is Key With Your Skincare Routine

Skincare works the best with consistency, so be sure to get yourself in the habit of following the above steps at least once a day. If you’re unsure how often to use a product, reference the label or packaging it came in.

So, now you know all the steps to a great skin care routine! Now you can use your knowledge to create your perfect, one of a kind routine that works for you.
